Venable Park Commemorative Artwork

The City of Creve Coeur is in the process of creating a park master plan to evaluate the needs and develop a plan for improvements in Dr. H. Phillip Venable Memorial Park, including commemorative artwork honoring Dr. Venable. The Venable Park Memorial Jury has selected three finalists to develop concept proposals for commemorative artwork to be installed in Venable Park. The three concept proposals are available for public review and comment from September 15 through October 15, 2023.

Members of the public can review and submit comments in one of three ways:

  1. Attend the open house in Venable Park (10630 Country View Dr.) on Thursday, September 21, 4:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. or on Saturday, October 7, from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
  2. View the informational display boards on display in the Creve Coeur Government Center lobby between Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., or the Dielmann Recreation Complex lobby any day of the week, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
  3. View the concept proposals online through October 15, 2023.

Comments collected during the public review period will be shared with the Venable Park Memorial Jury, who will then make a final recommendation to the City Council. The final decision on which proposal to select will be made by the end of the calendar year, with installation anticipated for 2025.

In March, a call for artists was published seeking an artist or artist team to create a site-specific commemorative artwork for Venable Park that engages visitors in the Venable family’s story and the legacy of racial residential segregation. The Venable Park Memorial Jury reviewed the submitted artist qualifications and narrowed down the selection to three finalists to develop concept proposals for public review.
