Residential Security

Security Suggestions & Classes

The Creve Coeur Police Department would also like to offer the below suggestions for when you are out of town:
  • Use a variable light timer to activate lights inside your home
  • Consider buying motion sensitive lighting for the exterior of your home
  • Keep trees and shrubs trimmed so burglars do not have a place to hide
  • Place additional locks on all windows and patio doors
  • Install an alarm system and remember to turn it on when you are away, asleep or outside Be sure valuables such as guns, electronic devices, and artwork are not visible from the street
  • While on vacation, have someone pick up your newspapers, mail and packages
Additionally, the Creve Coeur Police Department has teamed up with the Creve Coeur Neighborhood Watch Association to offer a ‘Residential Security’ class that is given multiple times a year. Please visit the Calendar of Events to sign up, or to find out more about this class, including dates and times.

Vacation/Out of Town Residence Checks

The Creve Coeur Police Department wishes to provide some helpful tips to keep your home safe while you and your family travel for vacation.

  • Use timers for lights, televisions or radios to make your home look occupied while you are away.
  • Remember to stop your mail and newspapers.
  • Don’t advertise that you are out of town on social networking sites or in public – you never know who’s paying attention.
  • If you are friendly with your neighbors, tell them you will be out of town and what vehicles should be in your driveway.
Call (314) 442-2075 to place your home on an Out-of-Town Residence check or complete our online form.

RESIDENTIAL Alarm systems

The City of Creve Coeur does not require a permit to install a residential alarm system, however, per city ordinance, too many false alarm calls in a calendar year may result in service charges.  Refer to our Alarm Info Guide for more information.

No one expects to be a victim of crime. Create your FREE personal account with Report-It.

The Creve Coeur Police Department has enrolled in a free personal property inventory for residents called Report-It. Citizens can create an online account of personal property which allows them to store important information to include serial numbers, item descriptions, pictures, and scans of receipts so items may be more easily identified in the event of theft.
A detailed and accurate list of property greatly assists police in the investigative process
and it can also come in handy when filing claims with insurance providers.

Citizens wanting to participate in Report-It can register for the free service at See the frequently asked questions link for more information.
For questions about any of the above information, or for more information, feel free to contact the Creve Coeur Police Department’s Crime Prevention Office by email or at 314-442-2075.
