The Economic Development Committee was officially established in 1996 to develop plans that identify business retention and recruitment strategies, promoting Creve Coeur as a place to do business. Members of the committee are residents of Creve Coeur and owners, managers or employees of Creve Coeur businesses, institutions or not-for-profit organizations. The committee consists of seven to nine members, one of which is nominated by the Creve Coeur-Olivette Chamber of Commerce to act as a representative for the Chamber.
The committee aims to provide a forum for building local consensus on the economic issues facing the city and develop strategies to address them, promote Creve Coeur as a center for business activity, and develop programs to encourage business retention and expansion in the city.
This past spring, the committee conducted the fourth annual Creve Coeur Business Awards in collaboration with the Creve Coeur-Olivette Chamber of Commerce, where three local businesses were recognized for their outstanding innovation and contributions to the community. More recently, the committee hosted a development forum seeking input from commercial and residential developers and realtors on the East Olive Corridor, as well as two round table discussions to get feedback from residential and commercial builders on the city permitting process.
“Our goal is to promote an economic environment that focuses on business attraction, retention and expansion,” said committee chair, John Meek. “By promoting the strengths of our city and continuing outreach to existing businesses, we can encourage growth in our business community for the betterment of the City and its residents.”
The Economic Development Committee meets on the third Tuesday morning of every other month at the Creve Coeur Government Center. The committee is currently accepting applications for new members.
