[ARCHIVED] "Coffee with the Mayor” to Address Beirne Park’s History

Coffee with the Mayor 2019

Wednesday, November 6, at 7:00 p.m.
Danforth Plant Science Center, 975 N. Warson Road

Mayor Barry Glantz is hosting an evening “Coffee with the Mayor” on Wednesday, November 6, to open a community-wide dialogue on the history of Beirne Park.

As previously discussed in the Ward 1 Council Corner published in the August newsletter, as well as the Mayor's column in the October newsletter, the park’s land was originally acquired by the City through eminent domain in the 1950s, with the purpose of preventing an African American family, Dr. Howard and Katie Venable, from building their home on the land that is now Beirne Park.

Guest speaker and local expert, Mr. Jim Singer, will speak briefly on the history of Beirne Park, followed by an opportunity for questions and comments from the audience.

This evening Coffee with the Mayor will be on Wednesday, November 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the Danforth Plant Science Center, 975 N. Warson Road. Light refreshments will be served.

RSVP: If you are planning to attend, please pre-register online here or call Melissa Orscheln, Public Information Officer and Management Analyst, at (314) 442-2081.
